Our Road to Paris

Accelerating the Path to Carbon Neutrality by 2045

With a 50.5% CO₂ reduction already achieved, Wereldhave Belgium is accelerating its journey toward carbon neutrality by 2045. Through data-driven investments, renewable energy and strong partnerships, we’re building energy-efficient, future-proof centers that create measurable impact for all stakeholders.

Our Ambitions

At Wereldhave Belgium, sustainability is not an add-on but a core pillar of our business strategy. As a leading real estate investor and manager, we see sustainability as a long-term value driver for all our stakeholdersinvestors, tenants, and society. It is embedded in our corporate value of Responsibility and translates into tangible financial performance, operational efficiency, and portfolio resilience.

Our ambition is clear: achieving full carbon neutrality by 2045 — five years ahead of the European target. Since 2018, we have already reduced our CO₂ emissions by 50.5%, proving that sustainable investments lead to measurable results.

Our Road to Paris is a structured, data-driven approach that combines insight, investment and innovation. Through systematic energy efficiency measures, integration of renewable energy and rigorous certification, we are building a portfolio that is future-proof, energy-efficient and socially responsible. This financed and active roadmap ensures that sustainability remains not only a moral choice, but also a strategic advantage for long-term growth and shared value creation.

Turning
Ambition into Action

Behind our results lies a structured, data-driven system designed to make every center more efficient, resilient and future-proof. Our roadmap to carbon neutrality is built on four pillars that drive continuous improvement and measurable results across all our Full Service Centers.

Real-time energy monitoring and asset mapping give us a precise view of every building’s performance — the foundation for smarter, faster and more efficient decisions.

Each year, 3–5% of our net rental income is reinvested in sustainable upgrades — from HVAC replacements and roof insulation to advanced building management systems.

Through smart lighting, solar power, EV charging and tenant engagement, we improve energy use and circularity while supporting communities through social initiatives.

All assets target BREEAM “Very Good” ratings and are verified through independent assessments like GRESB, ensuring transparency and trust in our sustainability performance.

Value Creation for All Stakeholders

Our sustainability strategy creates shared value. Lower energy costs for tenants, resilient assets for investors, and thriving communities through local and social initiatives.

  1. For our tenants

Energy-efficient systems and renewable power lower operational costs and improve comfort.
Future-proof centers support tenants’ growth and strengthen their sustainability image.

  2. For our investors

Sustainable assets retain value, attract quality tenants, and reduce long-term risks.
Our Green Financing Framework ensures access to capital for projects that deliver measurable ESG impact.

  3. For society

By transforming centers into healthy, inclusive spaces, we support local well-being.
Each year, around 1% of our net rental income funds social and environmental initiatives.

Ring Kortrijk
A Living Example of Our Road to Paris

At Ring Kortrijk, our strategy comes to life. New insulation, a high-efficiency heat pump, and 800 solar panels now cover 46% of the center’s technical electricity needs — cutting energy use by 6% and water use by 16% in just one year.
