Our History
2025
A year fully defined by growth, renewal and anniversaries.
The portfolio expanded beyond national borders. Two shopping centers were added in Luxembourg. Knauf Pommerloch was integrated into the Belgian portfolio. Knauf Schmiede was acquired by Wereldhave N.V.. Both centers are now fully managed by Wereldhave Belgium.
A second acquisition followed in the fourth quarter. This time in Belgium. With the acquisition of Ville 2, Wereldhave Belgium strengthened its presence in Charleroi. The purchase was partly financed through a successful capital increase. Wereldhave Belgium also takes care of the day to day management of the shopping center.
Alongside growth, there was room for celebration. Shopping Nivelles marked its fiftieth anniversary. This milestone went hand in hand with concrete investments. The underground and above ground parking facilities were renovated. Signage was updated. The esplanade and terraces were redeveloped. A new entrance was created at Delhaize. The center also underwent a full rebranding, including a new logo.
Shopping Belle Île Liège also celebrated its thirtieth anniversary, underlining its long standing role in the urban fabric of Liège.
2025 confirmed the ambition of Wereldhave Belgium. Focused growth. Active management. Continued investment in future proof shopping centers.
2019 – 2024
Transformation and strategic alignment
In the early 2020s, Wereldhave Belgium accelerated its shift toward the Full Service Center model, in line with the group’s LifeCentral strategy. The company focused on repositioning its assets into places that combine shopping, leisure, work and services — bringing everyday convenience to local communities. In recent years, Wereldhave Belgium and Wereldhave N.V. have reinforced their cooperation, aligning expertise and scale while maintaining independent governance and identity.
1999 – 2018
A focused retail portfolio
From the late 1990s onward, Wereldhave Belgium evolved into a specialist in retail real estate, concentrating its activities on medium-sized shopping centers and retail parks.
Major milestones included the acquisition or development of key assets such as Shopping 1 (Genk, 2012), Ring Kortrijk (2015), Retail Park Les Bastions (2016), Retail Park Turnhout (2018) and Retail Park De Mael (Bruges, 2018).
The company also owns two strategically located office parks — The Sage Berchem and Vilvoorde Office Park — which complement its retail portfolio and provide stable, long-term income.
Today, approximately 95% of the Belgian portfolio consists of retail assets, with the remaining 5% representing high-quality office spaces.

1972 – 1998
From Rang City Mall to listed real estate investor
Founded in 1972 under the name Rang City Mall, the company marked its first decades with major acquisitions that established its presence across Belgium: Shopping Nivelles (1975), Shopping Les Bastions (1979) and later Belle-Île (1995).
In 1998, the company became publicly listed on Euronext Brussels under the name Wereldhave Belgium NV/SA, reinforcing its long-term commitment to transparency, shareholder value and sustainable real estate management.
Our Roots
Wereldhave Belgium’s origins are closely connected to Wereldhave N.V., a Dutch real estate company founded in 1930. While both entities share a common heritage and vision for responsible and community-oriented real estate, they operate today as independent listed companies — collaborating where expertise and scale create value, yet each preserving its own governance, strategy and identity.
