Wereldhave Belgium is accelerating its sustainability strategy with the rollout of more than 350 charging points for electric vehicles across its entire real estate portfolio by the end of 2026. The real estate player, welcoming over 26 million visitors annually to its shopping centers, retail parks and office buildings, is investing in a forward-looking customer experience where comfort and sustainability go hand in hand.
This investment in charging infrastructure is part of the broader transformation of Wereldhave Belgium’s retail portfolio into Full Service Centers: multifunctional destinations that respond to the daily needs of visitors – from shopping and leisure to health, work, and mobility.
Phased rollout across all Belgian sites
In collaboration with technology partner 50five, backed by J.P. Morgan as one of its shareholders, Wereldhave Belgium will begin the installation of 82 charging points in 2025 as part of the initial phase. This includes the replacement and expansion of existing AC charging stations at locations such as Shopping Nivelles, Les Bastions in Tournai, Belle-Île in Liège, Ring Kortrijk and Shopping 1 in Genk, as well as at The Sage office buildings in Berchem and Vilvoorde.
50five, a specialist in smart charging infrastructure, is responsible for the installation, monitoring, and maintenance of the charging points. The collaboration highlights a long-term commitment to quality and reliability.
By the end of 2026, the network will grow to more than 350 charging points, distributed across all Belgian shopping centers and office buildings in Wereldhave Belgium’s portfolio. New sites will also be included in the plan.
Fast and standard charging: solutions tailored to visitor needs
The project combines DC fast chargers (up to 400 kW) and AC charging points (7.4 to 22 kW) to meet the diverse charging needs of visitors.
More than 60 ultra-fast DC charging points will be installed at strategic locations, ideal for short shopping visits. These stations enable users to charge their vehicle up to 80% in just 20 minutes. This part of the investment is carried by 50five.
By 2026, approximately 290 additional AC charging points will be added, intended for visitors who stay longer — to shop, work or relax. Wereldhave Belgium will gradually realize these installations through a phased investment approach.
All charging stations will be accessible via standard charge cards and apps, and will be monitored 24/7 to ensure uptime and allow for rapid intervention in case of issues.
Sustainability, comfort and innovation combined
“This investment in charging infrastructure is part of our ‘Full Service Center’ strategy,” says Nicolas Rosiers, Deputy CEO of Wereldhave Belgium. “Our goal is to offer visitors not only comfort and convenience but also solutions that reflect our sustainability ambitions. EV charging is a logical and valuable extension of our services — future-proof, financially sound and relevant to today’s and tomorrow’s mobility needs.”
“The installation of over 350 charging points also fits within our broader ‘Road to Paris’ strategy, aiming for CO₂ neutrality by 2045,” adds Arne Van Baelen, Sustainability & Energy Manager at Wereldhave Belgium. “With this rollout, we actively promote sustainable mobility while enhancing the overall visitor experience. Guests can recharge their vehicle while they shop or relax — creating a seamless ecosystem where shopping, charging, and living come together. A portion of the electricity used to power these stations will come directly from our on-site solar panels, providing 100% green energy.”
